" TRENDY SHAKESPEARE....." by RYAN J-W SMITH * * * * * Five Star Rating
The Rogue Shakespeare Company's first Edinburgh Fringe production 2006 is
‘Love Labours Won’...written and acted by RYAN J-W SMITH
The editor of the USA Weekly News has given "Love Labours Won" a five star rating,
but the USA Weekly News has stated that if there were more stars available,
Ryan J_W Smith's play "Love Labours Won", described by the USA Weekly News as
TRENDY SHAKESPEARE....... would have received 100 stars....
Take two loving couples whose male idea of love and lust differ greatly. Duke Caesus (Adam D Millard) sees women as lust objects with which to satisfy his passions. Duke Valentine (Theo Herdman) has his Ideal love and plans to be faithful forever. Caesus love Julia (Adele Cameron) connives to catch him out in the hopes of securing his fidelity to her forever, her friend Katherine (Emma Lo Bianco) is secure in her relationship with Valentine and can foresee nothing but happiness till her wedding day. Enter three traveling players and the plot is set. Annabelle (Tessa Nicholson) is paid by Julia to test Caesus. Her two colleagues Edgar (Palle Nodeland) and Edmund (Ryan J-W Smith) are in on the ruse and do their best to wheedle cash out of both Dukes. This 'Shakespearean-style' verse comedy is pacy and well performed. I think it is worth a visit whether you are a fan of this type of theatre or not. This enthusiastic young company present this home written, directed and produced show. Ryan J-W Smith had the ideas, wrote the book, music, produced, directed and performs in the show.
After its run in Edinburgh it transfers to London’s West End where it will double-bill with
Ryan’s other verse play 'The Power Play'.
